Letter from the Sheriff

Dear Visitor,

Welcome to our website; I hope you find it informative and helpful.

As the law enforcement arm of the courts, the Office of the Sheriff is a critical partner in public safety, working closely with other law enforcement agencies at the local, state and federal levels for a safer, stronger Prince George’s County.

The Sheriff is responsible for securing the court facilities at Upper Marlboro and in Hyattsville City, for protecting thousands of visitors and employees who enter and exit the courthouses each day, and for protecting judges and their courtrooms.

The Sheriff is a principal partner in the fight against Domestic Violence - serving Peace and Protective Orders, responding to 911 emergency domestic violence calls in Police District III and as an advocate for victims of domestic violence through our Special Victim Assistants Unit.

In addition, our Sheriff’s Deputies serve other documents issued by the courts, including criminal and misdemeanor warrants, court orders related to child support and paternity, and orders related to legal proceedings on rental and homeowner housing disputes.

In service to the Prince George’s County community and the state of Maryland, the Office of the Sheriff is committed to Professionalism, Transparency and Accountability.

Sincerely,
Sheriff Melvin C. High
